Ideology x Implementation
An old friend in town, pretty much a bootleg tour guide aka an excuse for my delay.
Dear friends,
Damp, slippery and dingy underlit toilets have stopped me from swinging out at Hà Nội’s local quán nhậu.
It feels awesome sipping a can of cold beer after work always, loosening myself away from social boggles as fizzy bubbles tickle taste buds. However, nothing beats a festive gathering of friends, indulging pints after pints of cold beer to quench the intense thirst forced by high-sodium appetizers in a boisterous, airy space.
The fun is hindered the very moment you feel the urge to use the toilet. No need to describe further, I can already imagine a stinking shabby alley leading to a dark back room.
5 seconds of mind-drifting and that’s it for a weekend quán nhậu vision.
I raised my concern with two social scrollers (and smokers as they perceive themself) at a casual coffee shop in Hanoi’s Old Quarter and got directed to bougie Pasteur Street and Quán nhậu Tự do.
“It’s just an ideology, you know,” my friend said, impatiently tapping his cigarette against the table.
“You take a concept, cook it all the way and ta-da~ Implementation! Remember that!” He quickly wrapped up an about-to-be good philosophical discussion to resign for a smoke.
I’ve been thinking about the relationship between ideology and implementation lately. And it’s not only about sensational boozing funfairs plus clean toilets but it’s also about multiple facets of our lives – a non-zero sum game. You’ve got this?
All in all, as my homie put it: “Nothing’s sadder than untoasted bread”, I would love to propose a different clause:
“Nothing’s sadder than drinking a pint of beer alone at a local taproom in a strange city at 4pm and having to restrain yourself from getting another since you have to be relatively conscious to walk back to the hotel when it’s not dark yet.”
It was in Seattle and the taproom was Pike Brewing Co.
Till next time,
T.
P/S: Write me some words, again.
